Morning Sickness Remedies

There are numerous general remedies for morning sickness which include: Avoid real warm places because heat can cause an increase the nausea feelings; Get lots of rest and take naps during the day; Get plenty of sleep at night; Get out of bed slowly each morning, and; Eat dry cereal or plain crackers before you get out of bed in the morning.

Odors can often bring on morning sickness symptoms. Ways to avoid these smells and odors include; Turn on exhaust fans or open windows after meals and when cooking; Use a microwave to cook whenever possible as this usually produces less odors, and; Have a handkerchief containing a few drops of essential oil, such as lemon oil for example, in it around you at all times and breath through it when you can’t get away from the smell that is annoying you.

Food and drink often have a huge impact on morning sickness. Some tips with regard to food and drink include: Avoid spicy or greasy foods as they often cause heartburn or nausea; Your cravings generally will lead you in the right direction so eat what you want when you want it; Eat frequent protein snacks such as beans, eggs, seafood, and low fat meats; Eat smaller meals several times a day; Eat a salty food prior to eating a meal; Don’t drink fluids along with your meals; Drink ginger and peppermint teas which are non caffeinated as they may help to calm the nausea; Avoid dehydration by regularly drinking small amounts of fluids throughout the day; Don’t skip meals; Avoid fried foods, and; Eat cold foods whenever possible.

Taking supplements can also help alleviate some morning sickness symptoms. Talk to your doctor about: Taking your prenatal supplements later in the day; Taking Vitamin 50 mg of B6 daily. Vitamin B6 has been shown to help with pregnancy induced nausea; Taking 250 mg of ginger capsules three times a day. Ginger has long been associated with alleviating nausea; Stop taking your prenatal supplements temporarily to see if the nausea diminishes. You still may need to take a Folic Acid supplement to help protect your baby, and; Unless you are anemic, stop taking iron supplements.
